Hello,

I built a house this year and installed vinyl flooring from the company Tilo on the ground floor. The floor has been in place since August, and recently I noticed several long scratches on it, but I still can’t figure out where they might have come from... My question is, is there any way to remove scratches from vinyl floors?

I would be very grateful for any helpful answers!

I don’t think there’s much you can do about that. There are wax sticks and similar products for hardwood floors, but we haven’t had good experiences with them. The brand-new hardwood flooring in our last rental looked worn out after just 1.5 years, as if some serious damage had happened. It was probably poor quality. In the apartments before, we had different floorings (laminate, strip parquet, PVC, wooden planks) and none of them looked like that. At home, we installed good laminate flooring, and so far there are no scratches despite having 2 cats, 1 dog, and 2 small children. Not even in the entrance hallway where dirt and sand are constantly brought in from outside. As for vinyl… I would just accept it and consider installing a different floor next time. Removing it now probably isn’t very useful, and the effort is unlikely to be worth it. The scratches don’t seem very noticeable at first glance anyway. It wouldn’t be worth the effort to me. Do you have a photo of the damage?

I know what you mean...

But my cheap laminate flooring from the old house didn’t get scratched on sandy feet. The sand actually pressed into the feet instead.

But it’s all good.

I don’t want to badmouth vinyl. However, it really isn’t anything new. The look and feel have improved compared to PVC, but basically, it’s still the same and just too expensive for that.

These are pretty serious scratches. Something definitely must have happened, but you just didn’t notice. These aren’t scratches from a bit of dirt or a child’s ride-on toy; they’re very long and the surface coating is worn off... in my opinion, at some point you weren’t careful with something. However, I would leave it as it is now. Although the scratches are large, I don’t think it’s worth replacing the floor because of them. Of course, it’s annoying, especially since the scratches are quite light and the floor itself is rather dark. Someone here mentioned they simply traced over their scratches with a colored marker, so maybe you could try that here with a brown felt-tip pen or something similar?

I just looked at the pictures of your scratches. I had similar scratches on my floor caused by chairs in the dining room. I ordered a scratch remover for vinyl or laminate on eBay. Using that cloth, my scratches disappeared. That would be my tip for you.
