Hello,

I built a house this year and installed vinyl flooring from the company Tilo on the ground floor. The floor has been in place since August, and recently I noticed several long scratches on it, but I still can’t figure out where they might have come from... My question is, is there any way to remove scratches from vinyl floors?

I would be very grateful for any helpful answers!

Since vinyl flooring can’t be sanded like parquet, you will probably have to live with the scratches.

Maybe there are some kind of "plastic" pens that can fill in the scratches – but I can’t imagine that would look very convincing.

Isn’t there any repair kit with hard wax or something similar?

Incredibly "qualified" statements: "Vinyl is junk"; "Tiles are nonsense"... omg. Did you have a bit too much mulled wine? Or did you sleep poorly?
Every type of flooring has pros and cons – neither tiles nor vinyl are inherently "junk." As always, there are a) different quality levels and b) different colors (who on earth would put slaughterhouse-style tiles in the living room? Maybe 0.01% of homeowners – and even then, it’s their choice: everyone should do as they please).

For me, vinyl is not an option either – it just feels like “plastic.” I don’t think I would ever get comfortable with that type of floor covering. Tiles are ideal for wet rooms (and especially durable). In our living area, we currently have (dark) tiles. In the planned project, there will be hardwood flooring: tiles are wonderful in summer, while in winter they appear (only visually) somewhat cold (even though they’re warm because of underfloor heating).

What’s interesting are the observations that vinyl floors can easily get “scratched.” I guess it also depends on the color and how noticeable it is. That is definitely annoying, since vinyl is not really “cheap” either.

It doesn’t say anywhere that it’s "light," @montessalet, the original poster said they don’t know where the issue comes from.

Our vinyl flooring is also used heavily, and there isn’t a single scratch anywhere. As you said, quality plays a big role, especially the thickness is a key factor. Since my father-in-law is an interior decorator/floor installer, we received very thorough advice here. There are significant differences in quality... we now have one that is used in department stores and is correspondingly durable.

In our old house, we had solid wood parquet flooring in the living room, beech strip by strip, sealed with parquet lacquer. Very elegant, but it does scratch. Once a year, a treatment with Sofix was enough to restore it. Ask at a specialist retailer if there is a Sofix for vinyl as well? k.

Nowhere does it say that it was scratched for no apparent reason.

Sure... They didn’t appear by themselves! However, according to the original poster, there were no obvious reasons.

We’ve seen this in other contexts. What? Broken? It wasn’t me, I don’t even know how that could have happened (puppy eyes, utmost conviction...)....

Regarding the scratched vinyl… Furniture moved? Sandy feet? Dirty hand truck? There are plenty of ways to leave marks on any type of flooring. Hardwood parquet is no less vulnerable.
