ᐅ Ugly Streaks After Painting

Hello everyone,

We are in the middle of interior finishing and are having trouble painting the ceilings. Although I used the most expensive paint from the hardware store, the roller marks are clearly visible on the painted surface. I just repainted the ceiling, applying less pressure, but unfortunately, the result was the same.
What am I doing wrong, and what could be causing this?

I also believe the wrong roller was used. Painting should be done following a specific method, such as always moving the roller vertically and not applying too much pressure. Then it should work well.

Here are my experiences: Don’t press the roller too hard, otherwise it will get flattened. This means the fibers in the roller compress and no longer apply the paint properly, which causes streaks. Also, don’t let the roller get too dry—dip it back into the paint in time. You can hear this by the sound while rolling. Roll in one direction first, then crosswise. So, first from top to bottom, then from right to left. This process is called “laying off.” If done correctly, no streaks should appear.

We always use a lambswool roller and have not had any problems with streaks or spots so far. We have also used different colors and brands without any issues.

A poor result can also be due to the quality of the paint. Unfortunately, this cannot be determined by the price. I have had paints from discount stores (orange, brown) that produced very good results; I have also experienced poor results with paints from home improvement stores (including strong colors).

I can only agree with that; during my last renovation, I also had significantly better results with the affordable paint compared to the much more expensive one from the home improvement store.
