Hello everyone,

We are currently having a new fireplace installed. Unfortunately, there was a mistake when measuring the natural stone hearth; pictures are attached.

The hearth consists of two parts. Unfortunately, the bevel on one stone was measured incorrectly, and it now extends several centimeters (inches) too far inward. Depending on the lighting, it is barely noticeable, or it looks as if someone had used a grinder there. It bothers me, but it’s probably not a reason to insist on a new hearth...

Can someone advise me on the best way to fix this so it looks as good as possible?

At the moment, I have the following options:

1. A price reduction and leave it as is (which is hardly acceptable to me)
2. Remove the hearth. The bevel would then be continued and finished with dark silicone grout.

I’m worried that this might look even worse afterward...

Does anyone have experience with this or any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards!

Question 1) Who is responsible for the defect?
Question 2) Does it bother you less if you get a discount of 50 euros? Or 500? Or 5,000?
Question 3) Is it a functional defect?
Question 4) What value does a cosmetic defect have?

Answer 1-4) Either someone else is at fault and you cannot accept it, in which case you should request a replacement, or you are just unlucky.
