Hello,

How high should tiles be installed in the bathroom and guest toilet? Should they be tiled all the way up to the ceiling, or is it better to leave an untiled upper border?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Thank you and best regards

Hi!

Just tile up to the height you or you all prefer.

For example, we have 2 meters (6 ft 7 in) of tiling in the bathroom and only 1.5 meters (5 ft) in the guest toilet.

Tilers are more expensive than painters.

Personally, I prefer to leave some space above the tiles. Besides, it’s easier to refresh the look of the bathroom if you want to.

Whether there are advantages or disadvantages also depends on the type of plaster you had applied in the bathroom or guest toilet (with a shower?).

I asked the same question to a tiler about 5 days ago. Here is the answer:

Whether the tiles go up to the ceiling or only about 2m (6.5 ft) high, or any other height, is purely a matter of personal preference. There are no real advantages or disadvantages—except that you will need to buy and install a few more or fewer tiles.

For interior bathrooms, I have heard that leaving some space below the ceiling is recommended to allow for moisture exchange (just leaving that thought open).
