Yesterday, my wife showed me something while cleaning the bathroom – the grout around the shower drain is coming loose.

The building inspection was almost 5 years ago, in October.

Is this considered a defect covered by the warranty or guarantee? Or are we responsible ourselves?

I have now scraped out about 15cm (6 inches), cleaned it as well as possible, and re-grouted.

Still, I have a uneasy feeling about it.

In principle, would you report any visible defects before the 5-year period expires? I have already planned to take photos of a few spots over the next few days.

It is also a kind of "botched gutter."

Jokes aside. I don’t have much to add on the actual topic. I would give it a try. It doesn’t cost anything.

You can try, but it’s possible that expansion joints are excluded. Over time, this is almost normal in a wet room. Do you have a friend who can help? Usually, the joint is completely removed and redone. Duration: 1 hour.

Silicone joints are maintenance joints.... You can give it a try, but I believe the time is better spent on scraping them out...

That is not silicone; it is joint compound, which is actually hard once dried. Do you have silicone in the joint around the channel? Could that be the issue?

Oh yes, that's exactly where the mistake is. Only silicone should be used there. It was done incorrectly. No wonder it’s coming loose. I hope it was properly sealed; otherwise, you would already have a significant water damage in the floor below.
