ᐅ The parquet flooring under the office chair is lighter in color. Can parquet wear down from use?

Star_trek3002 May 2023 18:21Hello,
I use my office chair a lot on the hardwood floor. There are no scratches on the floor, but the area has become lighter than usual. Possibly some rubbing? Is there anything that can be done about this?
I didn’t know that office chairs should be placed on a floor protector to preserve the hardwood.
Best regards,
Jaden Hoch

When chairs are constantly pushed back and forth, they leave marks on the floors. This is not only annoying but can also lead to conflicts, especially when using a rental property. Chair socks could be a solution. Chair socks are simple but highly effective ways to prevent scratches and marks on floors. They also reduce annoying noise. Perhaps this could be a solution.

Whether they will work well in the long term remains to be seen. At the moment, they just annoy me because they roll so easily that I keep moving somewhere against my will.

You don’t lay down hardwood flooring only to cover it up with cheap plastic, also known as floor protection, just because of the office chair...
There is no wear-free movement. Especially with an office chair, since the wheels are always under load when rolling around. Over time, this inevitably wears away the finish and/or even the material itself.

Basically, this only partly depends on the chair. Parquet darkens significantly due to UV light, depending on the type of wood.
Over time, it darkens evenly, except in areas where no light reaches or where the UV exposure is filtered.
Therefore, it is possible to have lighter spots under tables, cabinets, floor protectors, and similar items.
I have Doussie wood parquet throughout the house, which darkened quite a bit. This process lasted up to 6 months. Under the bed in the bedroom, it is still visibly lighter. But after all, it is a natural product.
