In this case, you would have one sash that protrudes more – but on the other hand, a comfortable clear opening width with only one opening sash.

A post in the middle is definitely not an option. Having a post in the middle mainly means that both passages are equally narrow, so aside from variety, the second one doesn’t offer any additional benefit.
