What do you recommend for a patio door?
Swing door, lift-and-slide door, parallel sliding-tilt door.
Width: approx. 2 m (6.5 ft)
What would be the clear opening width for sliding doors with a total width of 2 m (6.5 ft)?

pffreestyler24 Jul 2018 09:12For me, the casement doors with overlapping frames each cost about 800 € plus VAT.
A lift-and-slide door of the same size was about 1,700 € plus VAT each.
All are triple glazed. So, you pay more than twice as much.

Width: approx. 2 m (6 ft 7 in)Is that the rough opening size of the wall?
After deducting the frame widths, there won't be much space left between the elements anyway...

I am also planning to install 2m x 2m (6 ft 7 in x 6 ft 7 in) patio doors. You have similar conditions as the original poster, and the answers from 2015 still apply.

I do have enough space for French doors, but I find it a bit annoying that something always protrudes into the room. Then just have them open outwards. I don’t see any other options than the classic symmetrical double doors with a mullion for this size.

Are there any other reasons to choose French doors? See the replies on page 1; lift-and-slide doors don’t make sense here; folding sliding doors even less so, and tilt-and-slide doors are problematic: my former employer didn’t offer those (even though we handled every custom request imaginable that could cause warranty issues).

Not everyone likes a mullion, and it can sometimes force you to add even more mullions to keep a consistent appearance.
