Hello everyone,

Our kitchen for the house is planned, and all appliances have been selected.

So far, I have only cooked on a regular electric ceramic cooktop and will now switch to induction.

We have chosen the Siemens ez977kzy1e as our cooktop. However, I wonder if it’s really that easy to switch after 20 years of using an electric cooktop.

What concerns me most is the often mentioned “buzzing” sound on the cooktop and the lack of residual heat when you turn the cooktop off 😀

How did you experience your switch? Has anyone possibly even gone back to electric? And how long did it take you to get used to it?

I can understand ovens and similar appliances being placed next to each other (ideally at eye level) or stacked in tall cabinets. But the cooktop... you can only really notice that by going very close and looking for the label.

From a rational point of view, that’s true and I know it, but I don’t know, it’s just a quirk of mine.

It’s like with clothespins… I never hang laundry using different colors on the same piece.

But I do like my Siemens appliances and the touch controls, so all good!

I agree: visible design should be consistent, while hidden technology doesn’t need to stand out visually.

Induction cooking is great!
However, if you are not familiar with it, you should be cautious at first.
When I moved into my wife’s apartment 10 years ago, I only knew my bachelor’s two-plate electric stove.
I wanted to cook something, so as usual, I turned the stove to full power and went to the bathroom.
We ended up having to throw away our good WMF stainless steel wok because the contents had become permanently fused to the pan…

By now, though, I cannot imagine using anything else.

You should definitely reconsider that quirk when it comes to appliances 😉 ... Especially with appliances, there are certain brands that generally guarantee quality for specific types.

Examples
- Liebherr for refrigerators, Gaggenau for special built-in models
- Miele for dishwashers
- Berbel, Novy, and for downdraft fans, Bora for range hoods
- Miele, Gaggenau for steam ovens/steam combi ovens/ovens, but also BSH and AEG as solid second choices
- Miele and BSH brands for cooktops only

My husband does that, I would never even think of it, but who cares?

No, that’s not a quirk but a very personal priority. Anyone who convinces themselves that they can design a kitchen purely rationally probably does have a real quirk. It’s good to openly allow your emotions to play a role in the decision-making process. It directly contributes to the overall living experience.
