ᐅ Additional cost for exterior paint when changing from white to color?

Hello,

Yesterday we had the selection appointment for our prefab house and chose a color (it had to be from the Caparol A1 color chart, for some reason). Today we were told the additional cost for this: more than 4,000€.

That really surprised us because we always thought that whether it’s white or color shouldn’t matter much, so where does the extra cost come from? Of course, that’s a bit naive and maybe simplistic, but we really didn’t expect over 4,000€.

Could you share your experiences? I’d be interested to know how much extra color options cost compared to white for you...

Best regards

Does everything always have to be spoken of so negatively as soon as "Town & Country" is mentioned?
Everything above HBW30 is included in the price, or at least it was until the end of 2021.

Sorry, but were you having something in your tea or coffee? Or maybe rum cake?

The color of the house is not "dared" by Town & Country? That’s the decision of the homeowner. If I want pig pink for an architect-designed house, the architect is unlikely to say, "No, I’ll make it white..."

So Town & Country only sells existing buildings. There must be a lot of existing buildings then that need to be removed 😉
Well, never mind.

I am actually more the candidate to chair the faction that appreciates Town & Country. I cannot understand what you must have had in your tea to twist my explanation so completely. The special colors would only be a burden in pricing and logistics if they were made unattractive by surcharges, which this provider wisely avoids. That a provider does not make the mistakes of its competitors is the exact opposite of talking things down!

For the specific ordered house, the customer chooses the color. But in the brochure, it’s the manufacturer who dares. And almost all competitors are significantly less bold there.

Has the original poster actually made a decision yet?

Sorry for my late reply and thank you very much for the countless contributions here—I really didn’t expect that!

We haven’t decided yet because by now there are unfortunately many more discrepancies on numerous points, which are not “just” around €4,000 (about $4,400).
Next week we have a clarifying meeting scheduled with the managing director. However, it’s primarily not about a possible excessive price that he can certainly demand (after all, I’m not forced to pay €15 (about $16) for an Aperol Spritz in Markusplatz either—even if the seller can ask for it), but rather about agreements that were not honored regarding fixed pricing and several other issues that bother us but that we have always restrained from raising out of courtesy.

Everything is very complicated and if things go badly, it may not be solvable without a lawyer. This wasn’t how we wanted to build. We deliberately chose a small local company because we believed that yesterday’s word and the company’s reputation still matter…

These are difficult times to be building right now. We remain optimistic and hope for a peaceful compromise, but the bad taste remains…

This applies—not just in the current construction boom—but the written word. If, in the end, you pay only about four thousand more than planned, you can be sure of two things: the envy of many other homeowners and that legal proceedings will cost even more. The final color and the even nicer one, the one you would have actually wanted, will probably be distinguishable by very few people and only under ideal conditions. The world is full of people with bigger problems who urgently need a lawyer. Have a smoke of an HB ;-)

I have been thinking for a long time about what sounded strange in your words, and I think I’ve figured it out: the four thousand confused me, but other than that everything is as clear as in most of your posts 😉.

If only it were just about the 4 Ks, and I don’t mean this in terms of envy... It’s about a lot more, but as I already mentioned, we hope for a peaceful solution without a lawyer. Compromises and concessions are something we have hardly ever experienced in recent months; it’s long been clear that it won’t be the dream house anymore, but when you look at this terrible world we now live in, there are definitely worse things than our little problems...

We have hardly ever known compromises and sacrifices as much as in recent months; the dream house has long since ceased to be one,
After months and years since moving in, the moment the child blows out the birthday candles, all disturbances on the way to the dream home will also have disappeared. How sad would Rossi and Gaston be if, fortunately, not even a small part was missing...
