Hello,

after numerous discussions with different experts, we are now quite confused.

Background:
Our house (basement, ground floor, upper floor with a total living area of 200 m² (2,150 sq ft)) has a shed roof with a 12.5° pitch facing northeast.

The first expert recommended adding a solar thermal system to our air-to-water heat pump; the second considers this completely pointless because, according to him, a) we would constantly have uselessly hot water stored in the buffer tank, and, in the worst case, the roof seals could get damaged, whereas with photovoltaic panels we would be more flexible and could use the energy for heating but also for feeding electricity back into the grid when the buffer is full...

In other words, the second expert predicts constantly unused hot water and significant problems with such systems and recommends photovoltaics instead.

What do you think?

Best regards

If the roof slopes to the northeast, I wouldn’t install anything on it at all.

With an air source heat pump, photovoltaic panels are definitely recommended!

But a north-facing roof at 12° (12 degrees)? Phew.
What about the south-facing roof?

As mentioned, it is a shed roof; therefore, there is no "south-facing roof" as such... Otherwise, you could possibly raise it on stilts, but whether that would look "nice" is questionable.

Should it be aesthetically pleasing or functional?

Who designed the house so that this equipment has to be installed on the roof facing the "wrong" direction?

This is just a botched job.

Apparently, the architect planned it—who else would have?
It should be functional, but certainly not ugly because of that...
