ᐅ Gentle Slope – Should You Build on the Slope or Add Fill?

Hello dear forum members,

we are interested in a plot of land that has a slight slope (see attached photos).

What do you think? Based solely on the pictures you see, is it possible to fill in or redistribute the soil to level the plot, or would we inevitably have to build following the slope? What approximate costs might we expect? A basement is not planned; we would like to build with a slab-on-grade foundation.

Thank you very much!

It is not exactly level either.

Where is the driveway for both plots?
What are the cardinal directions?

Can you accept a basement or ground floor that goes into the slope at the back?
The exterior landscaping can then be adjusted, possibly with a graded slope instead of retaining walls, etc.
Each floor has garden access.

Well, I’d put it this way. Both plots cost only 30,000 euros each. There is no real estate agent commission. I just needed to have a rough idea of the additional costs involved when building on a slope.

To the point:

"There is no low-cost way to build a house and yard on a sloped lot."

Additional costs can only be planned or estimated once you know how you want to handle the slope and have received a quote; not before.

No one can give you a precise answer here without detailed information:
Other than the fact that the construction will cost more than the land itself. That doesn’t help you much if you plan with €30,000 and later it turns out that removal and disposal will cost an extra €15,000 because the soil class is very poor or you need to compact with special or extra gravel.

It depends on what you want and, above all, how steep the slope actually is.

The less earthwork required, the cheaper it will be.

A basement can be an additional floor or a livable lower ground floor.

It costs more money, but no one can say how much.

Do you already have a builder or architect? They should be able to provide a reliable estimate.
