Hello everyone,

I would like to get some tips and experiences from you again.
We are planning a utility room on the first floor, mainly dedicated to laundry. So, it should include:
a washing machine, dryer, laundry detergent, a utility sink (is that the right term?), space for sorting laundry, a laundry cabinet for towels, etc., and possibly some cleaning supplies and a vacuum cleaner.

Currently, the structural dimensions are 3.51 x 1.70 m (11.5 x 5.6 ft). If we place the washing machine and dryer along the longer wall as planned, there will be just under 1 m (3.3 ft) of working space in front of the washing machine. After reading another thread, I realized that might be too tight and uncomfortable.

How much space do you have in front of your washing machine? From what point is it comfortable without having to press your backside against the wall?

No one makes a layout plan for the laundry room.
Today, we installed a pull-out drying rack for small items that can’t go in the dryer. We also added a folding rod to hang hangers when needed. Additionally, I want to put up a wall cabinet above the underfloor heating manifold for laundry detergent and some cleaning supplies.
We have been living in our house for almost 1 1/2 years, and there are more important things, but now it’s finally time to invest some effort here as well. Now you can really see where space was tight.

What? But how do you determine the utility connections without planning? (We are currently designing the utility room, before construction starts, because we need to decide on the door location.)

A fixture plan is not the same as the detailed construction plan.

Of course, it’s helpful to plan right away where the ironing board, laundry baskets, and drying rack will be located.
Most people only plan for their two appliances...

My husband had already noticed that the space might be a bit tight. Then I came across the other thread.

We can either make the room 20-30cm (8-12 inches) wider or place the units facing forward. However, that would make it tight around the sink, and the platform can’t be that high because of the window, which would also be difficult to access.

A 35cm (14 inches) platform sounds great; we currently have 15cm (6 inches), which you hardly notice. What are your platforms made of? Masonry? Concrete?
I will simulate it again and then decide.

What exactly do you mean by the pull-out dryer? Is it like a wall-mounted drying rack?

What do you think about stacking the washing machine and dryer? That way, the dryer is at a convenient height, and you would have more space left for cabinets and other storage.
