Hello,
has anyone had experience with side awnings for the terrace?
We are looking for something not too expensive that can be easily taken down (for example, if a storm is approaching). We don’t want fixed fence panels that tend to break every time, and plastic fences (at least they hold up well at the neighbor’s) are really expensive…
These side awnings are not too costly and can basically be retracted every day.
But are they actually practical for everyday use? I’m a bit worried that they might eventually stop rolling up properly, for example…

I assume, since you mentioned your neighbor’s fence panels, that it is a privacy screen similar to a fence.
Unfortunately, I cannot say how durable they are. I think it depends on the workmanship.
The idea is good.

We have now owned a side extension awning for one year. It still looks as good as it did on the first day. It provides us with 5 meters (16 feet) of privacy and can be extended or retracted in seconds. It must be kept closed only during storms, as it acts like a sail. We are very happy with our purchase decision.
That sounds good. We are currently considering whether to choose that as well because of the flexibility of the privacy screen.

We are looking for one with a 3.5-meter (11.5 feet) width, but there are some starting at 100 euros and others costing up to 600 euros *gulp*. For example, when I check Amazon, I often read that many of these have problems and won’t retract after a short time (spring mechanism failure), and so on.
