I want to replace the old wooden windows of our house (built in 1975) with modern uPVC windows. I have obtained several quotes and am now unsure whether to choose double-glazed or triple-glazed windows. One tradesperson advised me to go with double glazing, referring to our poor facade insulation, as triple glazing could cause thermal bridging and lead to mold in the window reveal areas. Another recommends triple glazing due to its better insulation and sees no risk of mold. Who is right, and what should I choose?

The better the windows are, the more likely it is for mold to develop on the window reveals; however, poor thermal insulation of the exterior walls is only one factor. Interior wall temperature and humidity levels also need to be taken into account.
So: The risk is there, but mold on the reveals can also occur with double-glazed windows. It is not possible to say this with certainty for your particular house without measurements and calculations.
However, in a typical house from the 1970s that is normally occupied and heated, I see little problem with upgrading the windows, where good double-glazed units should generally be sufficient.
