But you don’t know anything about the U-value of the exterior walls. So this is just a saying to be taken with caution... everything has to work together in a house!
And if Joe had built in 1995, he certainly wouldn’t have triple glazing as a standard in his new build.

A U-value of 1.1 is typical for 1995. And the common talk is that there are problems if the walls have a worse U-value.
Mold, assuming there are no construction defects, is solely related to heating and ventilation behavior.

Double glazing is not outdated, but simply a different approach (and conversely, triple glazing is not necessarily more energy-efficient). You don’t have to live on the moon or be extremely frugal to still choose a well-made double-glazed window in some cases today.

In 2014, we unintentionally had double-glazed Veka windows installed instead of triple glazing. We had everything recalculated for the KfW 70 energy certificate to present it during the inspection by the KfW bank. It was close, but it was sufficient. If it hadn’t been, we would have faced major issues with significant construction delays and the window manufacturer would have suffered a huge loss.

There is one drawback: in summer, the heat gain through the glass is very high due to the solar radiation. The increase in heat inside the house is significant.

I believe that the ventilation system also plays a role in preventing mold.

For the roof, we would need to choose the best and most expensive windows, but then you could sit underneath them in summer without getting sunstroke, even with the roller shutters open.

Update and thread closure: I received two more quotes at the end and negotiated the first provider down to €5000 including VAT. I am now proceeding with this provider based on multiple recommendations.
