Hello

Is it mandatory to make a separating cut when partially demolishing a house?

Best regards

What exactly do you mean by "cut through" in this context?

A partial demolition of a building requires measures to ensure that the part not planned for demolition remains stable. More or less, the section to be demolished must be an extension (or a roof structure), because otherwise, essential load-bearing and exterior walls would be missing. It would be best if you provided more details, as it’s difficult to give targeted advice without more information.

I strongly recommend involving a structural engineer for something like this. They will provide a report detailing exactly how the demolition should be carried out to ensure the structural stability of the remaining building.

If it’s not an extension being demolished, I would recommend hiring professionals. They know what to do to preserve the building structure.
With materials like stone, concrete, and similar, you won’t be able to avoid making a separation cut.
However, in my opinion, they cut our sections piece by piece.

The question was more about whether it is absolutely necessary to make a separation cut (which is very expensive), or if it can be done by oneself using a demolition hammer.

It amounts to the same result, except that you won’t have a clean cut but rather chiselled material.

Can’t anyone knowledgeable about demolition answer this question for me?
