Good evening,
We have the following problem: sometimes there is a smell of marijuana or hashish in the children's room. We recently bought the house. It is a prefabricated house with a solid basement. The children's room was completely renovated, meaning new flooring, new wallpaper, and a dropped ceiling installed. This smell does not occur all the time. We cut some holes in the wall to check whether the mineral wool insulation was okay, which it is. The insulation is dry and does not smell like that. We also found no animals or anything else. Please help, as we are getting desperate. Oh, and no one in our household or the neighborhood smokes marijuana.

It is a single-family house. The ground floor, meaning the timber frame structure, has been completely renovated. The floor has been completely replaced (vinyl) including screed. Yes, the authority has already inspected and ruled it out. Of course, there was no odor in the room during the authority’s visit.

In heavy smokers, the smell can penetrate the masonry or walls. This can sometimes lead to total damage. Could it be the same with hashish?
Does the odor only appear under certain humidity and temperature conditions?

I would understand if there was a constant smell, but that is not the case for us. The indoor humidity is always steady at 50%. My guess was that it might be coming from the garden, but I don’t smell anything outside.

Sorry... you somehow come across as untrustworthy to me (of course, I could be wrong).

But I would suggest the following:
- Consult building biologists... that way you have it in black and white.

Do not ventilate or open doors beforehand, as that would otherwise distort the measurements.

Do you mean a pollutant measurement?

Well, I actually like the smell. I don’t see it as a problem. If it smelled like something bad, then okay... By the way, there are plants that smell the same, both indoors and outdoors.
