Hello everyone,
In front of our house, there is a small concrete wall that I don’t find particularly attractive. I would like to improve its appearance, preferably in a cost-effective way.
Do you have any ideas?
My first thought was, of course, to paint it. That’s also the inexpensive temporary solution, but I don’t really find it very appealing. The base of the house will be painted in spring. Maybe then it would be an option to clean the wall, fill any cracks, and then paint it.
At the back of the house, I have already covered a larger wall with cladding stones. I quite like how it looks, and I think that would also work well here in the front. The area is manageable too. However, that would involve some costs. The cladding stones are still affordable, but I would also need a wall cap. Here, the cost is about 15€ per meter. The wall also goes around the corner, so we’re talking about nearly 30 meters (about 98 feet) in total. Maybe it would be possible to do only part of it and skip the side next to the house (which you can’t see in the photo). A 30-meter (98-foot) wall cap already costs around 450€, plus adhesive and cladding stones. That’s actually a bit too much for me.
Do you have any other good ideas? I’m open to suggestions 🙂

Cleaning, filling, and painting would be fine, especially if you are already reluctant to spend 500€.
The brick slips would also need to be cut, since the wall height varies. Personally, I wouldn’t have the patience for that, but maybe you’re skilled at it (and have the right tools).

The facing bricks would also need to be cut, since the height of the wall varies. Personally, I wouldn’t have the patience for that, but maybe you have a knack for it (and the right tools). I'm not reluctant to spend 500€, but 500€ just for the covering seems too much to me. On top of that, there would be another 300€ in additional costs. Since it’s only an aesthetic matter, I’m considering whether it’s worth it to me or if I’d be satisfied with just a bucket of paint. I have already used the facing bricks elsewhere in the garden. Of course, cutting them is a lot of work, but that wouldn’t be a problem in general.
Here is a picture showing roughly how I imagine it (of course, very roughly done by me). I think it really makes a difference and looks much better than if I just painted it. The problem, unfortunately, is the cost of around 700–800€. Since the wall is almost 30 meters (98 feet) long in total, the wall coping stones alone cost about 450€, plus the cladding bricks, adhesive, and so on. I would go ahead and do it like this straight away... now I just have to convince my wife 😉
