ᐅ Radio in the Bathroom – Yes or No

Hello everyone and good morning,

I have been considering for several weeks whether to install a radio in the bathroom on the upper floor or not. If yes, which model would be best and how should I handle the speakers? If I do install a radio, I would like to have two ceiling speakers, not placed directly next to the radio unit...

However, I already have a TV connection and network cables in the bathroom. Sooner or later, a waterproof TV (does it really need to be fully waterproof if it won’t be exposed to splashing water?) will also be installed there. That also allows for radio reception. Is it really worth spending around 200 euros on a radio then?

Who has a radio in their bathroom and can’t imagine living without it? Who has a TV there and mainly uses it for sound or news during their morning routine?

Best regards,
Michael

We installed something like this – best purchase ever.
The brand is from the switch manufacturer: compact, practical, with a box underneath, good sound.
I can't imagine having a TV in the bathroom or in the morning, even though we regularly watch a lot of TV.

I also planned to use Visaton. Are you satisfied with it?

Yes, but you shouldn't expect miracles. The sound is okay, but I find it lacks some depth – although that could also be due to the Gira radio. Let's see how it sounds in the master bathroom, but for that, I still need to install the system downstairs.

I have also read on Amazon about the combination of Gira with Visaton DI-8 or DI-10. I think I will keep that in mind, thank you.

Recently, an electrician showed me a radio, also from the switch manufacturer. It is installed in a double frame, with the upper part for control and the lower part a speaker. Allegedly, this system uses the entire house’s electrical wiring as an antenna, which provides excellent reception. I suspect this is exactly what you are discussing here.

I will test the sound quality before making a decision. However, I don’t expect much, and it doesn’t need to be impressive. In the morning while getting ready or in the evening in the bathtub, it doesn’t have to be loud or booming.

We are typical radio listeners as well. We only watch TV in the evening, but the radio plays at almost any other time. Currently, we use a smartphone with a radio app, but such a built-in radio for the bathroom and kitchen is currently part of our considerations.

Hello,

Well, I’m not fighting over every bit of electricity – although I don’t want to waste it either. But I want to live comfortably
My question was a bit exaggerated, of course. Anyway, I also allow myself at least one luxury, though not in the bathroom. Occasionally, I ride a two-stroke motorcycle as a hobby. And that definitely wastes fuel[1]. Oh yes, almost “forgotten”: in our current garden, there is a barrel sauna with an electric heater. It requires about 11 kW of electricity.
So: everyone should be allowed to have a small (retreat) place of “indulgence.” I actually think that’s very important.

No offense, Kermit

[1] To give an idea of the scale: over 4 liters (1 gallon) of gasoline per 100 km (62 miles), while the bike weighs only 170 kg (375 lbs) empty and can reach nearly 125 km/h (78 mph). That’s a consumption rate comparable to a modern car. However, my yearly mileage on two wheels is quite limited. Such a bike is just fun for me; others may enjoy long baths instead. Although cold bathing also works on a motorcycle.

It would also be interesting for me to know the names and manufacturers of the bathroom speakers that can be controlled via smartphone.

We decided on Raumfeld by Teufel. A "One S" will be used in the bathroom. Alternatively, you can also check out Sonos.
