Hello IKEA fans,
A few weeks ago, I bought Pax – unfortunately, I only just got around to assembling it and I’m getting frustrated...
Among other components (I’m leaving out small parts like shelves):
- 1x Pax (100cm wide/201cm high)
- 2x Pax (50cm wide/201cm high)
- 1x Pax Lyngdal sliding door
- Komplement door closer
- 2x Komplement drawers (100cm wide)
Problem:
The wardrobe is assembled, the sliding doors are hung and move smoothly. However, after installing the door closers, the wide drawers won’t slide out. They hit the front door, which can’t slide further to the right. This is because the component that hooks into the door closer and closes the door also partly overlaps the other door, preventing further sliding to the right – I can’t describe it any other way...
Here are pictures of the "problem"
You can see how the drawer hits the door

This happens because the front door cannot slide any further to the right. The component on the left door closer overlaps the rear door, so it can’t be pushed further right...

And here you can see that the hanger (upper guide rail – where the door opener is also attached) is already as far to the right as possible. So no further movement to the right is possible here.

Please help
Best regards
Miranda

mirandaveracruz1 May 2012 21:31I have already reported this to Ikea customer service... it might be a manufacturing defect.
The problem only occurs when the door closer is installed, right?! I have never tried it without the door closer...

IKEA-Experte1 May 2012 21:31Regarding step 27: If the wide strip is on the right, then the front door must be slid to the right, as shown in the instructions on the last page. The fact that they are drawn the other way around earlier is probably just due to the drawing style.
If the door cannot be opened far enough to prevent the drawer from scraping, I wonder if this is the reason why the door closer is not listed as suitable for Lyngdal on the website.

PitOPossum1 May 2012 21:55The problem occurs with the stopper.
We experimented a bit with the original stoppers. It should work with them (they were not installed entirely by themselves).
If it is indeed the case that the stopper cannot be used with Lyngdal, that is quite frustrating. The seller could have pointed that out. Miranda seems to have called the customer service hotline as well. They should have informed her about it there.
Regarding the incorrect drawing:

In my opinion, this is incorrect. The doors are drawn the same way in every step — in the previous steps seen from the inside — so they are mirrored in the mentioned step. The drawing is internally consistent but does not correspond to reality. Still, thanks for the note.
Simply annoying!

That they were drawn the other way around before is probably due to drawing style.

IKEA-Experte1 May 2012 22:02People always stand on the left and hang one door after another there. In the next images, the position remains the same (copy and paste). At the very end, the front door is shown on the right. In the image on the website, the front door is also on the right.

mirandaveracruz1 May 2012 22:05I can only agree with "PitOPossum"... this should have been pointed out!
I have now removed the stoppers and installed the aluminum covers exactly as described in the instructions. Everything is working fine now... still frustrating though – I will try to return the stoppers.
Best regards

CONCLUSION: The Complement dampers are NOT compatible with the Pax-Lyngdal sliding doors NOT!
