Hello everyone,

like snails, we are slowly moving forward with the garden planning... Currently, I am considering a wooden privacy screen. Our neighbor installed some in the traditional way by setting them in concrete. I wanted to ask if it’s possible to do this without concrete— for example, using metal brackets or something similar.

Good luck

And where exactly are the metal shoes positioned?

Without concrete, it won’t hold up against the next stronger breeze...

For our old house, we anchored the privacy screens with metal ground sleeves driven into the soil. Nothing wobbled, but it was definitely tough to drive those long pieces into the ground!

We have two privacy screen setups using ground sleeves: nothing wobbles, and some of the plants hanging on the trellis mats fixed between the posts are quite heavy. We've also had several strong storms in the past two years.

So, what exactly do you think I said wrong about the garden that makes you so confident in your opinion?

I know about ground sleeves, but I just don’t trust them – especially since a small concrete footing is probably not much work and will also hold properly.

You are surely familiar with the different quality levels of ground sockets. We have also experienced strong storms here where the sockets held perfectly. It really isn’t always necessary to set everything in concrete.
