salzburg773 Aug 2017 11:47Hello everyone, we are planning to have a concrete slab poured and then build the shell structure.
The slab will be 7.5 x 11 m (25 x 36 ft) and it will be a single-story, about 2.5 m (8 ft) high.
So far, we have no idea about the costs. Does anyone here have an idea of what something like this typically costs? On average, I know it always depends on the materials. We need to watch our budget and cannot use the most expensive raw materials. Is there a formula or guideline to estimate this?
We are also considering having the slab for the garage poured at the same time. That would be 5 x 9 m (16 x 30 ft).
Thank you in advance.

What is this supposed to be? A studio apartment?
After accounting for technical rooms, there might be about 60 m² (650 sq ft) of living space left.
With such a small area, the price per square meter tends to be above average.
But since you haven’t provided any specific conditions, it’s hard to give any concrete numbers.
With everything included, expect between 160,000 and 300,000.

We need to watch our budget and can’t afford to use the most expensive raw materials. As far as I know, there are no significant differences in raw material costs for the foundation slab and the shell construction. At most, prices depend on the economic situation and global market demand (construction steel, for example).
A special case would be building with reclaimed bricks, which resourceful people might obtain for free.
But ... is anything still missing in terms of basics? Do you have a design plan, structural calculations, or a building permit / planning permission?
There are plenty of threads here about construction costs in general, again and again ... Skimming through them should give you a good sense.

Calculate with a floor-to-ceiling height of 2.85m (9.4 feet); with a 30° roof pitch, this results in a ridge height of about 6m (20 feet). With these exterior dimensions, you’ll have around 63 sqm (678 sq ft) left after walls.

We need to watch our budget and can’t use the most expensive raw materials. You can get financing for houses, but not for cheap shacks. So in that sense, you don’t actually save money because you need to have the full amount available yourself.

We’re also considering having the garage floor slab poured at the same time. It would be 5 x 9m (16 x 30 feet). That seems quite disproportionate compared to the house. Before cutting costs on the house, I would rather park elsewhere.
