Hello everyone,
I want to plaster my walls with decorative plaster (most likely Knauf Royal ready-mixed plaster), which has a grain size of 1mm (0.04 inches), because my walls already look quite worn out (drill holes, rough sand plaster that crumbles easily, and some areas covered with gypsum).
Has anyone worked with this or a similar plaster, and how should I prepare the surface? Is a standard primer sufficient, or should I take additional steps?
Are there any alternatives to this plaster?
I would appreciate any advice.
Best regards, Chris

Hi Chris, the quality of any decorative plaster depends entirely on the condition of its substrate...

So, if the substrate is already crumbling, everything must first be made stable, clean, and even before applying the decorative plaster (regardless of the manufacturer).

According to KNAUF, walls should be cleaned, loose material removed, defects smoothed with Rotband, and then everything primed. Only after that should the decorative plaster be applied. If the manufacturer recommends a particular product, for example for the primer, it’s best to follow that advice unless other reliable information is available.

Good luck!

Hi Allrounder,
I have now gotten primer and sealing primer to apply my decorative plaster on. I hope it works out.
