In November 2021, we ordered our kitchen at a fixed price from our local kitchen studio. They specifically recommended doing this even though we hadn’t started building the house yet. We were told that prices would increase significantly. That’s why we agreed on a fixed price, which excluded any possible price increases from the manufacturer or elsewhere.

Last week, our kitchen was finally installed in our new house, unfortunately with several defects, but that is another matter. Suddenly, there is an additional charge of 600 euros, referred to as an energy surcharge. Would you pay this despite having a fixed price agreement?

No. You have ruled out price increases, so that is not your problem.

You just answered your own question. A fixed price is a fixed price. End of story.

Exactly. I would be uneasy if you didn’t have the kitchen yet. But since it’s already there, a contract is a contract. I definitely wouldn’t agree to pay even one extra dollar.

Our kitchen studio came a total of five times because some appliances were delivered separately. We did not have to pay a single cent extra.

If nothing is stated about this in the contract and a fixed price has been agreed, I wouldn't pay anything either.

That is a business risk! After all, you also placed the order in advance.
