Hello,
We had a two-layer oak parquet floor sanded and lacquered. The area around the joints is several millimeters (fraction of an inch) darker than the rest of the surface. The flooring company says this is just "normal." Are there any indications of what might be causing this? Is this really acceptable?
Thank you for your assessment.

was installed and painted 10 years ago. Before the repainting, was it not like this?My interpretation (as mentioned above) is that the wood absorbed "something" at the end grain, causing it to darken. I doubt there is anything that can be done about it. Maybe it will change on its own over time (it might "warp"), but if it’s due to the paint, it will probably stay that way.
But looking at it from another perspective: I don’t find the coloring unattractive. In my opinion, it does not look like something went wrong. I could live with it. It has something "natural" about it.
I actually don’t find it unattractive at all.
With lacquer, it probably won’t hold up as well. After 10 years, you’ll need to sand and oil it again.
If I had extra money, I would have that done in my apartment now. When I bought it, I didn’t know the difference, and lacquer sounded more durable. In hindsight, I would have preferred oil finish back then.
For now, the apartment will be rented out. In 5 years, I’ll see what to do (the 10-year loan period ends), either sell or continue renting.
