koettel896 Jun 2017 17:41Hello everyone, we are currently planning the construction of a single-family house. Since we want to build in a country house style, we thought of using old bricks as flooring in the hallway (8.1m² (87 sq ft)) and at the rear entrance vestibule. We are getting the bricks for free.
My questions are:
Can the bricks handle being cut down to 2 cm (¾ inch) thickness?
Or is it better to lay the bricks without cutting them and skip underfloor heating, instead using low-temperature radiators in the hallway and no heating at all in the vestibule (about 2.5m² (27 sq ft))?
Since the total area is around 10.5m² (113 sq ft), cutting all the bricks in half would likely be a huge effort.
Can anyone help or has anyone done something like this before?
Thank you in advance.

You don’t want thin bricks (veneer), but instead want the stonemason to cut half-brick slices from full bricks?
(These would be 32.5mm (1.28 inches) thick in the standard size and 26mm (1.02 inches) thick in the thin format.)
The effort should be manageable, but I’m not sure about the breakage rate.
