Stuntmanbob12 Jan 2026 12:45Hello,
we have been living in our split-level house (built in 1969) since last year. On the west side of the house, there is a room currently used as an office. From this room, a staircase leads up to another space located above the garage. The ceiling of this "stairwell" is naturally higher than the office ceiling and extends into the attic. Sorry for the poor description, but I think the pictures will make it clearer what I mean.
The problem is that the office gets very cold in winter, even when the heating is turned up fully. I have inspected the attic and am considering whether and how I could insulate the stairwell area from the attic side. What should be taken into account, etc. Of course, I want to avoid moisture buildup and mold growth.
The roof itself is insulated up to about 1.5 meters (5 feet) in height between the rafters. Above that is the underlay membrane and roof tiles.
I would be very grateful for any opinions, tips, etc.
Thank you very much and best regards

Use whatever insulates well and is affordable. For the small area, I would simply attach rigid polyurethane foam panels to the exterior walls and fill any gaps (caused by posts or roof slopes) with loose fill insulation.Similar topics
