Hey,

Happy New Year to everyone.

The general contractor electrician is offering to install a motion sensor from Steinel above the front door. The exact model wasn’t specified (probably Sens IQ), but it’s one where you can adjust multiple zones and also set how far each zone should be illuminated. The cost with installation is just under 160€.

There are also exterior lights (next to the front door) that come with a motion sensor. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to having one or the other? So, should you have both together or keep them separate?

Thanks!

What exactly is the Steinel supposed to control?

Make it independent and reliable. By the way, the SensiQ is a very good detector (in my opinion).

As mentioned, I suspect this is the one based on the electrician’s description.

What would be the downside of a "2 in 1" solution?

Also, is there anything specific to consider for an outdoor light? Certain minimum brightness? If so, what would that be? Or...

What about something like an LED floodlight? There are options from Steinel, for example, the "XLED Home 2 XL" (though it comes with a motion detector).

Both approaches have their valid reasons. However, the range of lamps is usually larger when they do not have built-in sensors. Furthermore, the adjustment options are more extensive with separate sensors.
