Hello everyone,

From what I have read here, good lighting of the entire building activated by motion (using motion/infrared sensors) is very important for security and burglary prevention.

Some members of the housebuilding forum have also chosen to install a real or even dummy alarm system.

What I am considering now is a bright outdoor light at the main entrance (front door) that activates in the dark when it detects movement and also has a wide-angle camera. This camera could then display inside the house who is standing at the door. This way, you could avoid installing the smaller doorbell camera and at the same time gain an additional deterrent against burglars by having a better-quality camera. The intruder would not know if it is an internet-connected camera / if it is constantly recording or just shows whoever rings the doorbell.

What do you think about this, or do you have any experience with such outdoor light cameras?

Thanks.
Regards

Just saw an ad from Bosch yesterday for a lamp with a motion sensor and camera. Compatible with common smart home systems.

Yes, Bosch already sounds quite good. Since you wrote "compatible with common smart home systems," what kind of smart home system is actually needed? Because at the moment, we are not planning to include many smart home devices (no Alexa or similar, and we are also far from KNX setups, which is not meant negatively, just that it’s not necessary or within our budget).

Or is a camera integrated into the outdoor light already considered smart?

I only saw that it is compatible with Alex. I have no idea what the full scope is.
Bosch outdoor security camera with light; Full HD recordings, app control.

Such combined devices are often neither fully functional nor entirely reliable. Buy a proper IP camera and install it at the main entrance.

Lighting and other factors are a separate issue but must be considered, as cameras usually have day and night modes. High-quality cameras with good IR illuminators can capture much more in night mode than one might expect.

Lighting and so on is a different matter but must of course be considered, since cameras usually have day and night modes, and good cameras with quality IR (infrared) illuminators can see much more in night mode than you might expect.

An IP camera means a camera powered and connected via Ethernet? Which manufacturers can you trust without hesitation?

If the camera should also have IR (infrared), does that make it more expensive? Or can I save on that if I install seamless motion-activated lighting anyway?
