Hey,

Happy New Year to everyone.

The general contractor electrician is offering to install a motion sensor from Steinel above the front door. The exact model wasn’t specified (probably Sens IQ), but it’s one where you can adjust multiple zones and also set how far each zone should be illuminated. The cost with installation is just under 160€.

There are also exterior lights (next to the front door) that come with a motion sensor. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to having one or the other? So, should you have both together or keep them separate?

Thanks!

With external motion sensors, you can more precisely define the area to be controlled. Additionally, one sensor can operate multiple lights. For a simple light by the front door that should turn on when someone approaches, the choice of sensor doesn’t really matter. In that case, I would base the decision on design and price, as there are no functional differences.
