JANLEGEND6 Dec 2021 14:27Hello everyone,
I have a practical issue with my IKEA KALLAX shelving unit, specifically with the baskets used in it. The baskets keep slipping out of the compartments unintentionally, which is not only annoying but also causes the contents to fall out. My question to the community is:
What kinds of stoppers or securing methods would you recommend to effectively prevent the baskets from sliding out of KALLAX shelves?
It is important to me that the solution is easy to install, does not damage the baskets, and remains visually acceptable. Are there any special stoppers, anti-slip pads, clips, or other options that have proven effective? What experiences have you had with these?
Thanks in advance for your advice and tips!

I am familiar with your issue regarding the KALLAX baskets; this is a common problem with open shelving units that use baskets.
As a solution, I first recommend adding dividers or non-slip pads directly inside the compartments. These pads, made of rubber or silicone, are easy to find, simple to cut to size, and provide friction to keep the baskets firmly in place. They work very well when applied to the bottom of the baskets or directly on the shelves.
Alternatively, some users employ small felt pads or mini clamp stops attached to the sides of the compartments. These prevent the baskets from sliding out too far.
If you want to try a DIY approach, small strips (for example, wooden strips or self-adhesive plastic strips) on the front frame of the shelf unit are an easy option. These strips then act as physical stops.
It is important that the solution is reversible in case you want to use the baskets in other compartments later.
I hope these suggestions help! If you like, I can also recommend specific products or sources.

Attaching anti-slip pads directly inside the compartmentExactly, that’s a great idea! I did the same with rubber anti-slip mats, which are usually used for drawers or carpets. Just cut them to size, place them inside, put the baskets on top – and they really stay firmly in place! I’m always happy to see how tidy it looks without the baskets constantly slipping off :-)

...still looks reasonably attractiveIt works really well because the pads are almost invisible, and the baskets can still be used easily without much effort.
Definitely give it a try, it’s cheap, quick to do, and holds up great! 🙂
To add to the previous contributions, I would like to point out that when choosing stoppers for KALLAX baskets, it is helpful to consider the weight and surface material of the baskets.
Rubber or silicone pads are particularly suitable for baskets with smooth bottoms, as their material properties create high friction. For baskets made of wood or with rough surfaces, the risk of slipping is usually lower from the start, so simple small stops or strips on the front edges of the shelf compartments may be sufficient.
I also recommend applying adhesive products only to the shelves rather than directly on the baskets to avoid damaging them. There are also special anti-slip plastic profiles that can be attached with screws or adhesive tape to mechanically prevent accidental slipping.
A combination of anti-slip material and physical stoppers is also practical. Before installation, it is advisable to measure the exact dimensions of the baskets and compartments to find perfectly fitting solutions.
The most important thing is that the stoppers remain easy to remove to maintain the flexibility of the KALLAX system.
