Hello everyone,

At our house, the area beneath the balcony is used as part of the living room, almost like a bay window. So the balcony essentially acts as a roof.

Due to the structural conditions, the balcony cannot meet the energy efficiency standards required by the energy saving regulation. The balcony size is about 6.5m² (70 square feet).

As far as I understand the energy saving regulation, a renovation must only meet the standards if the building area affected exceeds 10% of the respective building component’s surface.

Therefore, I have the following questions:
1. Have I understood this correctly?
2. Should the balcony be considered as part of the roof?
3. When relating the relevant area to the balcony, should it be compared to the roof area or the floor plan area?

I would really appreciate your help with this :-)

Many thanks in advance!

I am not entirely clear on what your renovation involves and whether it has already been completed or is still planned. Have you extended the living room?

Sorry, that was a bit unclear.

The house currently has a balcony located above the living room.
The balcony is now going to be renovated (new screed, etc., and insulation as well).
Due to construction constraints, the renovation cannot comply with the energy-saving regulations.

Hence the questions...

Are you applying for funding? If not, feel free to ignore this question ;-)
