Hello,

I am building a house with a 24cm (9.5 inch) exterior wall and 14cm (5.5 inch) EPS insulation (38cm (15 inch) total).

To position the windows further outward, I planned to use a 36.5cm (14.5 inch) roller shutter box. This would make the window flush with the brick façade.

Now, I have heard different opinions. Some say that a 36cm (14 inch) roller shutter box is possible with a 24cm (9.5 inch) wall, while others disagree.
What is correct?

One more question: What about thermal bridges? With a 24cm (9.5 inches) wall plus 14cm (5.5 inches) insulation, I would have 1.5cm (0.6 inches) insulation at the roller shutter box with a 36.5cm (14.4 inches) box. With a 30cm (11.8 inches) roller shutter box, 8cm (3.1 inches) insulation.

My understanding is that the outer lip of the roller shutter box is always exposed on the outside and therefore always represents a thermal bridge. Or am I misunderstanding something here?
