Hello everyone.

Yesterday afternoon, we had a conversation with our window installer, who was commissioned by the general contractor.

It concerns a gallery window with a rough opening size of 201cm (79 inches) width and 213.5cm (84 inches) height.

The window is fixed glazing.

He claims that he cannot supply the window as a single piece, but only in two parts.

He justified this by referring to a standard, stating that a window can only be deflected by 8mm (0.3 inches) if wind pressure is applied, and so on.

Is this all correct? Or does he simply not want to install such a large (and possibly heavy) window?

This has nothing to do with generosity!

It’s simply about not accepting a company’s straightforward statement as a customer, just because they have to handle a more complicated installation...

That would only be a cost factor and a bit of installation logistics.

Yes, because this is about a post that wouldn’t be a real problem, more like a luxury issue.

Of course, it’s a luxury problem. You could easily look outside just fine with the post in place. But why compromise when you could create a visually perfect solution?

That's definitely going to be one-piece.

We will have multiple units of 5 x 3 meters (16 x 10 feet). Some will also be movable.

I believe the limit is around 16 x 3.5 meters (52 x 11.5 feet).

Either he’s not interested or is just doing a basic job.

I would say it was miscalculated.

What do you mean by that?
