Hello everyone, I am currently facing the issue of how to securely and permanently attach the handles on my Ikea Pax wardrobes. The handles can, of course, be fixed using the pre-drilled holes, but I’m concerned that over time they might become loose or wobble with frequent use. Does anyone have advice on which screws or possibly additional aids (e.g., washers, thread locker, glue) are best to use? And what is the most stable way to attach the handles, especially with regular use? I don’t want to overtighten, but I also want to make sure it’s done properly. I look forward to any experiences or recommendations!
The handles on Ikea Pax wardrobes are best attached using the screws provided. If you want to be sure, you can also use threadlocker (Loctite), but not too much, as it can harden the screws and make adjustments difficult. Washers are only useful if the screw holes are worn out or if the handle is loose.
From my experience, the screws provided with the Ikea Pax handles are generally sufficient, as long as the cabinet front and holes are intact. It is important to tighten the screws firmly but without over-tightening, as this can damage the threads in the front panel. To ensure a better load distribution, a thin washer can be used. If the material of the front panel is soft, threadlocker helps prevent loosening due to movement. Additionally, check and retighten the handles after a few weeks to extend their durability.
Hey, I’ve had my Pax handles installed for several years now without any issues! It’s really important to use the screws provided and tighten them securely—but not too much, or the wood might tear out! If you’re worried the handles might loosen, you can use small washers or occasionally retighten the screws. Just check them regularly, and you won’t have any surprises 🙂 And don’t worry, the handles will hold perfectly fine if installed correctly! Good luck!

The handles on Ikea Pax are best attached using the supplied screws. That is initially correct, however, the material of the cabinet door should be considered more closely. The fronts of the Pax units are often relatively thin and made of MDF or similar material, which limits the screw connection’s load-bearing capacity. Therefore, I would recommend tightening the screws with some torque during installation but not too much to avoid stripping the threads.

As a safety measure, a thin washer can be used to better distribute the pressure. That makes sense, especially with larger handles or if the handle creates pressure points. However, the washer should not be too large so as not to affect the appearance.
In general, I would recommend considering additional reinforcement measures for frequently used doors, such as using thread locker or occasionally checking the fastenings. Alternatively, if the material allows, one could consider reinforcing the handle by installing small dowels in the hole in particularly stressed areas.
If anyone here has experience with alternative fastening methods for Ikea PAX, I would be very interested in constructive tips.
