I am planning to securely and firmly mount my Ikea Besta system to the wall of my apartment. However, I have different wall types: some are solid brick walls, others are drywall panels on substructures, and some are concrete. My question is: which fastening methods and types of wall plugs are best suited for safely and securely fixing the Ikea Besta system to these different wall types? It is especially important to me that the furniture remains load-bearing, that no damage occurs to the walls, and that the mounting brackets from Ikea are used optimally. I look forward to practical advice that includes recommendations for materials, appropriate installation instructions, and any necessary warnings.
Great to see this topic getting such positive feedback! For anyone looking for an easy installation: Sometimes it helps to temporarily tack the brackets in place before the final attachment and use a spirit level to align them precisely. Especially with Besta, small inaccuracies quickly become noticeable and can cause annoying problems later on. And yes, drywall can be tricky – in this case, it’s better to invest a little extra effort and use high-load hollow wall anchors rather than skimping on materials. In the end, you’ll appreciate a sturdy piece of furniture and peaceful nights!
For drywall (gypsum board), it is best to use metal hollow wall anchors with a load rating of at least 20 kg (44 lbs). For brick and concrete, an 8 mm (5/16 inch) hammer anchor is sufficient. Always install the IKEA wall brackets precisely as instructed. That is all that is really needed.
