Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Malm chest of drawers from Ikea and noticed that the drawers are quite loud and rattling when opening and closing. This is especially annoying during quiet moments in the evening. My question is: How can I make my Malm chest of drawers quieter so that the drawers slide more smoothly and with less noise? Are there any tried-and-tested methods or specific accessories that are effective?

I have done some research but found many different recommendations, particularly because of the metal and plastic runners used. I look forward to your tips and experiences so I can solve this problem permanently.

Hello,
a simple trick is to clean the sliding tracks and then treat them with silicone or Teflon spray. Avoid oil-based lubricants, as they attract dirt and worsen the sliding performance over time.

Oh yes, I know that feeling! My Malm dresser was also very noisy until I sprayed the rails with Teflon spray – after that, it was almost silent! 😊 Give it a try, it really helps, and you’ll have peace at home again! Good luck! 🎉

Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? But honestly, a dresser isn’t supposed to bang like a bass drum, it should glide quietly. A little bit of magic lubrication and the piece of furniture slides like butter. 🙂

Hello everyone,

Here is a brief guide:

1. Remove the drawers completely.
2. Thoroughly clean the drawer slides (remove all dust, crumbs, and old lubricants).
3. Use a dry cloth and a mild cleaning agent.
4. Then apply a thin layer of silicone spray or a Teflon-based lubricant.
5. Check the drawer slides and ball bearings for damage and replace any parts if necessary.

Note: Do not use oil-based products, as they attract dust.

If the drawers have plastic stop buffers, check that they are correctly positioned, as they provide cushioning.

Finally, gently reinstall the drawer and open and close it several times to evenly distribute the lubricant.

Good luck!

Additionally, I would like to point out that the Malm dressers often come with full-extension drawers that use metal ball-bearing slides. If these are sticking or worn out, the only real solution is to replace the sliding mechanism, as lubrication only helps to a limited extent.

Another issue can arise from misaligned drawer fronts that may rub against the inside of the dresser. Checking and, if necessary, readjusting them is therefore also advisable.
