Important: The tension rods must be precisely adjusted to the room dimensions, meaning the ceiling height minus the floor thickness. Most IKEA versions are designed for standard ceiling heights; for non-standard measurements, alternative suppliers or custom-made tension rods may be advisable.
Installation is relatively simple and does not require special tools, just a spirit level and, if needed, a tape measure to take measurements. The shelf is attached to the rods, usually with clamp brackets or support angles screwed onto the back of the shelf.
