Hello everyone, I am facing the challenge of modifying an IKEA Besta shelving unit to fit perfectly under a sloped ceiling while maintaining a high-quality appearance. The particular difficulty is that the slope is quite steep, and I want to use as much storage space as possible efficiently. Stability and an upgraded look compared to the standard version are very important to me. Does anyone have experience modifying Besta units for sloped ceilings? What adjustments to materials, construction, or installation have proven effective? How can the furniture piece be made especially durable and elegant, possibly with additional cladding, fittings, or surface treatments? I look forward to your tips and practical advice, thank you!

Plywood panels with a thickness of 15mm (0.6 inches) used as an additional support or replacement. Thanks, plywood sounds like a good material. What surface treatment would you recommend for plywood if the front and visible surfaces should be glossy and high-quality? Is a two-component lacquer the best solution, or are there alternative coatings?
Also, how about the connection between the plywood panels and the IKEA system? Do I need special screws, or are there other fastening tips?

It provides excellent protection against scratches and moisture. Careful priming before painting is important to achieve a good result.

And how about the connection between plywood panels and the IKEA system? For the connection, I recommend high-quality chipboard screws with countersunk heads, preferably used with dowels or metal brackets. Pre-drilling prevents splitting. Wooden dowels can also help create a strong glued joint. It is important that the connections are load-bearing and precisely aligned to avoid later deformation.
If you want to completely rebuild the shelf, don’t hesitate to adjust the measurements – the Besta system is very flexible in this regard.
