Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install my IKEA Metod kitchen plinths, but I’m unsure about the best approach for different types of flooring. So my specific question is: What is the best way to attach the IKEA Metod plinths to various floor coverings such as tile, hardwood, vinyl, or concrete? I’m especially interested in reliable methods that ensure the plinths stay firmly in place but can also be easily removed if needed without damaging the underlying floor. Are there any special adhesives, clips, or screws that work particularly well for this? Additionally, I would like to know if there are any specific techniques or preparations for uneven floors to mount the plinths flush. Thanks in advance for your tips and experiences!

I find this topic very interesting. What seems particularly important to me is the combination of technical fastening and material protection. Therefore, I follow a very systematic process, which I am happy to share:

1. Substrate analysis: Different floor types require different measures. Tiles, for example, primarily need precise drilling, while vinyl and parquet require more gentle methods.
2. Preparation: Cleaning, degreasing, and leveling any unevenness— I usually use self-leveling compound for larger areas.
3. Selection of fastening:
- For tiles, tile drill bits with suitable anchors are used. Better safe than sorry to avoid cracks.
- For parquet, I use a combination of clips for easy installation and a discreet construction adhesive for extra hold. Screws are usually a last resort to avoid damaging the floor.
- Vinyl is fastened entirely with strong construction adhesive to prevent holes.
- Concrete allows for screws and anchors, but only after pre-drilling and proper dust removal.

4. Installation: Typically, I place fastening points every 30-40 cm (12-16 inches), sometimes closer in uneven areas.
5. Finishing touches: If necessary, cut baseboards precisely at the corners and sand edges.

Finally, if the baseboards need to be removed again, I recommend using clip systems instead.

Mich interessiert, ob du in der Küche Fußbodenheizung hast, das beeinflusst die Materialwahl auch noch mal.

I can only confirm that—heat sources and thermal expansion must be taken into account!
