Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Malm chest of drawers from IKEA and now want to make sure the drawers are securely locked to prevent them from being pulled out unintentionally—especially with young children in the house.
My question is: What are the best ways to permanently and effectively secure Malm drawers without having to constantly install something that might leave residue or damage the appearance later on?
I would appreciate concrete recommendations and experiences, including tips on suitable materials or specific locking systems. Thanks in advance!

Using child safety locks for drawers from IKEA or other manufacturersAbsolutely, I use exactly those at home too 🙂 I would also combine the locks with a small rubber buffer so that the drawers don’t slam when opened despite the lock — it sounds like a lot, but it really makes a difference.
Small tip: there are even magnetic versions available, which make handling easier. 😉

In our experience, simple clamp locks with a discreet design often work best, as they don’t disrupt the appearance and still look secure.
However, sometimes you don’t feel entirely comfortable with such solutions, because you consider the full load on the drawers and not every system remains reliably durable over time.
