Hello everyone,

I recently started using our IKEA Brimnes furniture in the kids’ room and want to make it child-safe. My main concern is how to secure the wardrobes and dressers so they don’t tip over or have the drawers open by themselves when my little ones pull on or climb them.

Does anyone have experience with stabilizing the IKEA Brimnes series using child safety measures? I’m specifically looking for advice on wall attachments, drawer locks, and whether there are special products that fit well and aren’t too complicated to install.

I’m also interested if any of you have created your own solutions that work well in terms of safety and everyday usability.

I’m grateful for any recommendations, including materials and installation tips.

Thank you in advance!

I was thinking about adding some small boards to create a larger surface area for the anchors.

Hello Dohau,

yes, that’s exactly what we did and it works really well! We installed a thin wooden board behind the Brimnes furniture and then fixed it to the drywall using heavy-duty anchors. This spreads the load better and makes the furniture very stable.

Are those compatible with the Brimnes material?

The drawer bumpers you mentioned are usually quite universal since they just stick onto the surface. However, it’s worth making sure the adhesive is suitable for the material—in this case, coated wood like Brimnes. For us, they stuck very well and definitely served their purpose.

Give it a try—especially with small children, having such safety measures is really reassuring! 😊
