Hello homeowners

I am curious to know if and what kind of security systems you use to protect your home against unwanted visitors. I am currently researching alarm systems and see there is a wide range from inexpensive to expensive. Above all, what components do your alarm systems include? Cameras, motion detectors, etc.

Since I work at night, I want my two ladies at home to be able to sleep safely, as we have a very open and visible property with only one neighbor.

I consider neighbors more of a security concern because he blocks the view of our garden and cannot see it himself.

It’s not possible.... No neighbor can see our property at all!!!

In our area, some houses are located right at the edge of a cliff. Most of them have large halogen floodlights with motion detectors installed under the eaves. This should deter most burglars. Alternatively, you might consider using a film that can be applied to window glass, which then acts as a burglary deterrent.

By the way: there are burglars who specifically target houses with cameras and visible security systems. These often send a signal that is greater than intended. Especially if there are no valuables inside the house, it’s better to avoid alarm systems or dummy cameras. Instead, use the mentioned film or rely on lighting.

Shutters are not an effective protection against burglars.

By the way, roller shutters are not an effective protection against burglars.

However, if you decide to use the film, it’s best to order it directly from the manufacturer or glazier.

There are roller shutters that provide burglary resistance, classified in WK classes similar to windows.

Who doesn’t have valuables at home? Laptop, TV, collections. Or, as my installer said, my heat pump. Two people can carry that out of the house in 10 minutes.

But I agree regarding drawing attention. Therefore, I will install a system but keep it as discreet as possible. I also see sirens as a double-edged sword. They might scare off drug addicts but attract professional criminals.

Hello!

An alarm system is generally a good idea to enhance your own safety or that of your family.

There are three basic types of alarm systems:

- Wireless alarm systems
- Hybrid/wired alarm systems
- IP-based alarm systems

There are also different ways to use them:

- Do you want to protect the interior of your house, so that an alarm sounds if a door or window is broken?

- Or do you want to protect the outside area of your house, for example with light beams or similar?

You should also consider whether the alarm system should be connected to a security service or if a siren inside the house is sufficient.

Once you have decided on a type of alarm system, you can get more specific advice.

If you want to consult professionals, just call any security company—they will usually advise you for free!

Well, I don’t know what you had against the links! I think my post was definitely valuable for the person asking the question and certainly helpful! But if “helpful” answers are not wanted… then so be it!

Sure, that one works too, if they offer free consultations! I just took the first two hits on Google. Have a nice evening ;-)

In my opinion, most alarm systems are basically useless if you live in a seemingly "isolated" house. The "safest" option is probably having a dog. Since that is not an option for you, you should install a system in the house that directly notifies the police as soon as an unauthorized person tries to enter the house or property.
