Hello! I wanted to ask which security rating you chose for your windows? I was advised to have RC2 on the ground floor and RC1N on the upper floors. The architect says this might not be necessary and would add about €1600. Best regards

Burglaries are often committed by foreign gangs that you won’t find at the local gym. This is widely known.

You're confusing something... the gym was about free access to the club.

A typical Karsten again.
Or was it just an unfunny joke?

We will use RC2 with safety glass throughout the entire house, meaning both the ground floor and upper floor, along with locking handles that have drill protection. In theory, RC2N on the ground floor and RC1 on the upper floor would have been sufficient for me, without locking handles with drill protection and without safety glass. However, the window manufacturer included this as a free upgrade, so we didn’t say no.

I am not fooling myself; the real protection only starts at RC4/RC5.
At RC1/2/3, the glass can be easily broken.
In my opinion, burglars with violent intent will not be stopped by RC3.

Other, more cautious thieves who start prying windows open are less dangerous and usually come during the daytime.

This is just my opinion. If you want to sleep peacefully and have secure windows, they need to withstand a wood axe or something similar, not just be secure against prying.

Hello,

When I read something like this:

I’m not kidding myself, sure, it only works at RC4/RC5.
RC1/2/3 glass can simply be broken.

I always have two questions:
1: What kind of areas do you live in? Pretoria; the Bronx; a suburb of Rio???
2: What kind of valuables do you have at home that you expect burglars who normally break into jewelers and bank vaults? That’s more like the RC4/RC5 level.

I just want to make life so difficult for the average, everyday burglar that they lose interest and go next door instead. Nothing more!

Burglars who can overcome RC3 windows have a plan and know there’s something worth stealing. They don’t do it just to steal an old TV.

If you have that kind of security need, you might also want to consider fixed glazing. Then you’ll just need controlled residential ventilation and air conditioning.

Best regards,

Andreas
