Hey,

the title almost says it all. I’m curious about how your hallway/entrance area is designed. What color are the floor tiles (if tiled) and what size are they?

Many entrance areas don’t have a window. Maybe a small (or large) side panel with frosted glass, and likewise a narrow glass section in the front door. Because of this, I would think a dark floor is less suitable—something lighter would be better so the space doesn’t feel too dark.

I’d appreciate any photos you can share.

Thanks!

No tiles, I don’t like them. Light vinyl.
See the rest in the photo.
We didn’t want frosted glass; we want to see who is at the door.
There’s nothing to spy on in the hallway.

Our hallway near the entrance is very bright (two clear glass side panels on the door and a floor-to-ceiling window “around the corner”). However, the hallway downstairs is quite long and has a T-shape with a large cloakroom area, leading into a darker space (a house built into a slope, where the rear part of the basement is embedded in the hillside).

That’s why we chose a somewhat lighter option. Currently, typical light concrete-look tiles are installed. The size is 60 x 120 cm (24 x 48 inches).

The hallway at the entrance is 2.35 m (7 ft 9 in) wide. The narrow leg of the T is 1.15 m (3 ft 9 in) wide, and the wider leg (with the cloakroom area) is 1.85 m (6 ft 1 in) wide.

I would always choose tile sizes in accordance with the room dimensions. Therefore, I find general recommendations for tile sizes difficult. Forcing large-format tiles that then have to be cut up in small rooms doesn’t seem either attractive or practical to me.

Colors should of course also be coordinated with other fixtures such as the staircase and doors.
