ᐅ Hager technical control unit or server cabinet?

Hello everyone,

the title says it all. We are currently planning the electrical system for our new build.
The electrician has planned a Hager “technical center” with a multimedia panel. This is where the LAN cables will terminate. Additionally, I would like to install the router and a NAS (Synology 214play) there.
It looks quite neat and seems to fit everything needed, but does this make sense?

Today, I was wondering why I wasn’t offered a server cabinet.
What are your experiences? What makes more sense? How does it affect the cost?

I would be very grateful for some advice.

I’m not at home right now, so I’m not sure. I would need to check...

Correct, but with the SG300 we're talking about less than 100 Mbit/s routing speed.
Where did you read that?

What is the purpose of using dynamic routing in a home network? Do your networks change constantly?

Not read, but tested myself. However, this is a “problem” that affects all Layer 3 switches. Simple routes still work up to a certain level of complexity, but beyond that, the CPU has to take over the processing, and the bandwidth between the switch chip and the CPU is often quite limited, which then becomes noticeable.

And how did you determine the 100mbit?
Serious question. Copying a large file from client to client?

There are special tools available for measuring network bandwidth, such as iperf. While these are not as precise as the very expensive devices designed specifically for this purpose, they are sufficient for home use, especially to determine the difference between 100 Mbit and 1000 Mbit. 😉
