I am currently planning my new kitchen, and now I have to choose a countertop. Which is better, stone or synthetic material? I think both have advantages and disadvantages, but which countertop is the better choice for me?

I would choose one made of stone, as they still look good even after many years. With the usual panels, you can easily get cuts and scratches if you’re not careful. In addition, they can discolor, which you can never get rid of again.

With a stone slab, you may also experience discoloration. This is because it will never have as smooth a surface as a plastic one. Additionally, using a stone slab is more likely to cause damage to your dishes, as any plate can break quickly if placed down too hard.

Stone simply looks much better than plastic. Additionally, you don’t see everything like you do with a slab where every cut is immediately visible. If it matches the style of the kitchen, I would definitely recommend going for a stone slab.

Since I have very nice, expensive dinnerware, I wouldn’t choose stone. Even a small chip can cause permanent damage. Once, an egg cup fell out of the cupboard and broke, and it cost 18 euros. It’s only worth it if you have a lot of money!

Stone would definitely be great, but it is much more expensive than the boards from the hardware store. However, this is an investment for many years. Unlike the other boards, you can cut directly on the stone and do pretty much anything else on it. The only downside is that if you do that, the knives will dull very quickly.
