Hi!

I want to build a garage directly attached to my single-family house. My general contractor suggests skipping a concrete slab for the garage and just paving the ground instead. I asked around a bit among friends, and they all have a concrete slab. Are there any long-term disadvantages if I only have the ground paved? It would, of course, be much cheaper.

Paving only the floor of a garage has the disadvantage that the paving will deform over time. The driving and braking forces exerted by the wheels transfer stress to the paving, which will gradually cause ruts and depressions. I would recommend a concrete slab.
